Sportfondsenbad Amsterdam-Oost

Leo de Haas, pool manager since 1994, was the first Dutch pool manager to apply Heatsavr to his pool. Sportfondsen Amsterdam-Oost has now been using Heatsavr for over a year and a half. Thanks in part to Heatsavr, the pool saved €46,000 on their energy consumption in 2011. What prompted De Haas to apply Heatsavr and what is his experience?

Energy savings will be the most important motivation for applying Heatsavr for most people. However, De Haas was triggered by the direct effect the product gives. He is very interested in the reduction of the relative humidity, as Amsterdam-Oost has always been a fairly humid pool which resulted in constantly fogged and damp walls. The consequences? Wet stucco, mold, and corrosion. In fact, at times during the winter months, it became so bad that the ice on the outside of the building affected the joints of the structure. With the use of Heatsavr, all the moisture that had absorbed into the walls disappeared within six months. “There is much less damage being done to the walls as a result, so you can save on maintenance costs,” said de Haas. “Where there always used to be moisture on the windows and a puddle of water of about three centimeters in the window frames, you now see nothing. Not even during the winter!”

Doubts about applying Heatsavr

The first thing that came to mind for De Haas was the quality of his swimming pool water. He was, understandably, concerned about the monthly checks. “What will Heatsavr do with my parameters? Wat will it do to my water?”. Despite his doubts, De Haas decided to accept the challenge. The main reason for this was that the product had been used in the United States for more than 18 years, and there have been no complaints since. “All the more a strong point considering the Americans have a culture where damage claims are prevalent.” A decision was made to apply Heatsavr to one of the instruction pools and to keep an eye on the water. It soon turned out that the water parameters remained unchanged and the water quality was fine. From April 2011 onwards Heatsavr has therefore been applied to all the Sportfondsen pools.

Results

De Haas started to apply Heatsavr to better manage the relative humidity within the pool area. The ventilation dropped from 60% to 30% during the night with the help of Heatsavr. All, of course, while maintaining a good relative humidity. The moisture problems that had been a problem in the past were solved. In the addition to the disappearance of these problems, it is also interesting to note how the use of Heatsavr saves energy. In 2011, the pool consumed/used €46,000 less energy than the year before. De Haas contributes this change largely to Heatsavr, stating: ““You simply know that you use less energy when less ventilation is being used.”
